My Perfect Summer Game: Kingdom
[Calm until nightfall]
There’s something special about playing games at the summer cabin. Just me, my laptop, and the forest outside. I have so many good memories of late evenings on the porch with a cup of peachy tea. Completely absorbed in my little games. Too focused to even notice the sound of my laptop fans working overtime.
What’s funny is that I often play very different games during summer than the rest of the year. Partly because of my laptop’s limitations. Even though I’ve definitely pushed it harder than I should.
One of my biggest summer favorites are the Kingdom games. I keep coming back to them year after year. I have to admit that tower defense games never really felt like my thing. But Kingdom made me eat those words many times over.
What I love most is the moment the sun starts going down, and all my men come running back to the safety of the castle walls. There’s a brief moment of calm, when you can watch the evening light reflecting across the lake. Right before the monsters emerge from their portals. I call them trolls. I’m not actually sure what they are supposed to be.
I also love riding through the forests and exploring the beautiful, mystical world. There is so much to discover. The treetops stretch so far above that the forest feels dark and eerie even in daylight. The music and sound design make the game feel alive. They add so much to both the peaceful and unsettling atmosphere.
To me this is the perfect summer game. Especially Kingdom New Lands is a favorite. Did I mention it’s addictive too? Don’t say I didn’t warn you.
